About Us

Treat your child to something special with hippotherapy sessions, horseback-riding lessons, and summer camp from North Carolina Therapeutic Riding Center in Mebane, North Carolina. Our company is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that offers equine assistance and therapy for children and adults. Founded by Dot Kohlbach, Lou Paules and Debbie Lominac, NCTRC first began at Miss Pitty Pat's farm in Durham. It eventually settled down in 2008 at its current location at Clearwind Farm. In 2009, NCTRC took over management of the farm through a leasing agreement, and is currently working towards purchasing Clearwind Farm.

The North Carolina Therapeutic Riding Center exists to empower children and adults with physical, emotional, mental, and social challenges to create active, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. We do this through equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT). Additionally, we are the only EAAT provider in Alamance, Durham, and Orange counties.

The challenges these individuals face include autism, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, behavioral issues, brain injuries, and developmental delays. NCTRC is accredited as a Premier Center by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH International, formerly known as NARHA), which is the governing body for all participating therapeutic-riding programs in the country. Additionally, we are proud GuideStar Exchange
Silver participants.
